Sometimes ignorance is bliss, and one woman is unsure as to what to do with an uncomfortable discovery in the home she was renovating with her family.

The unnamed woman, believed to be from the US, shared her terrifying tale to Reddit after finding a secret compartment in the ceiling filled with hard drives - all with first names written on them.

She explained her grandfather owned a house that he had been renting out, which her uncle was meant to be acting as the landlord for.makanan-khas-aceh-2_169.jpeg?w\u003d1200

However, her uncle 'just collected rent and did absolutely nothing else' - leaving a massive mess when the tenants moved out.

'It was horrible. Horrible,' the woman wrote in disbelief. 'Horrible. How people live in this filth is beyond ne. Dead mice. Mouse st. Probably quarter inch of grease all over the kitchen.'

Despite the mess, the woman and her husband made the decision to purchase the property, explaining her dad could help renovate the entire place and add some extra bedrooms.

'Well in this market we would be stupid,' she wrote. 'So we hopped on board.'

It wasn't just the horrific levels of grime and dirt that shocked the family, with the frightened woman retelling how they came to find the unsettling discovery.

'My insane tale begins day one,' the mom-of-three wrote on the r/weird subreddit. 'My dad and I are gutting the basement. It's literally raining mouse turds on me,' she said.

'Out falls a half-eaten porno mag from, had to have been 70s era,' she guessed. 'Mice ate the date.

'Low and behold out drops Viagra,' she continued. 'This was hilarious. I couldn't stop laughing.'

Declaring it 'strange,' the woman joked that 'someone thought they might need it for a rainy day and sealed it into the roof,' before moving on.

Most people's responses was to not attempt to watch what's on the tapes, especially as it was so carefully hidden

The next day, her father and husband went to work on the basement, successfully gutting it so it was 'completely bare bones minus a few more ceiling tiles around the duct work.'

But, on the third day, the woman received an alarming picture from her husband, showing a neat stack of hard drives that had been sealed above the duct work with a board stapled over them, all with first names on them.

'These were literally in the ceiling. Like built into the ceiling,' she said in disbelief.

'These have had to have been there along time,' the woman pointed out. 'My grandpa has owned the property for five years and in those years the same people have lived there, and this has been sealed from many layers.'

The homeowner confessed that she was 'creeped out' by the finding, and is unsure as to what she should do.

'Should I phone the police? Will I sound like an idiot? Will I look like the bad guy? Will I ever find out what is on those hard drives?' she questioned.

'This is killing me. And no I will not attempt to find out myself cause that's a swamp I ain't willing to wade into it,' she added.

Most people responses was to not attempt to watch what's on the tapes, especially as it was so carefully hidden.

'It's going to something horrible,' one Reddit user responded. 'Nobody documents names and hides evidence of things they're proud of.'

'That is my thought,' agreed another user. 'First porn mag and Viagra. Next, mysterious hard drives are carefully hidden with first names on it. I would be afraid it was child porn.'

'More likely voyeur/hidden cams,' chimed in another. 'Still, phising hard agree that whatever is on those hard drives is not going to be anything remotely pleasant.'

Others urged the woman to hire an attorney before taking it to the police.

'Maybe they got arrested. Maybe they died. I think I'd research home ownership and see what I could find out about previous owners,' suggested a user.
